Mayo to Little Salmon Lake (west of Faro) OR Silver Trail- Klondike Loop – Campbell Highway.

          Under brilliant blue skies we drive back down the Silver Trail to Stewart Crossing.  Henry was planning on filling up there, I had confirmed in the Milepost there was a gas station.  When we get to Stewart Crossing, which consists of an info centre, gas station and campground, the gas station is closed.

The sign said closed July 8 for upgrade of pumps.   The lady at the info centre tells us they closed for a wedding.  Travelling in the north is beautiful, but you have to be prepared for everything.   

 











We aimed for Five Fingers Lookout for our lunch spot and what a beautiful one it was.   Being a lookout, a couple of tour buses stopped, and the people commented how romantic our lunch stop was.  

 We ended up being joined by a couple from Montreal and their son from Whitehorse.  After lunch we do a beautiful 45 minute hike down to the rapids.

At Carmacks we filled up and I was an amazed at the lovely grocery store they had.  From here we left the Klondike Loop and went onto the Campbell Highway. 

Little Salmon Lake

We were totally surprised when we turned the corner and saw the fjord like ‘Little Salmon Lake’.  We drove along the picturesque lake till our camp spot for the night at Drury Campsite, were Drury Creek runs into Little Salmon Lake.  We lucked out with a lake front campsite.   The forest across the lake had burnt in 1998.  The fireweed a blooming over the mountain sides.
