NORTH TO ALASKA
DAY 1 = May 24, 2011
Under cloudy skies and with nervous anticipation we depart Kaleden for the GREAT BIG NORTH. The cool weather of the spring, has provided a shade of line green on the rolling hills as we travel towards Merritt. As we head north towards Kamloops we see young calves grazing around the olive green of the sage brush and antelope scrubs.
Henry had a perfect picnic spot in mind just before Savona. We sit overlooking the Kamloops Lake having our sandwiches and both CN and CP trains can be seen along the shore of the lake. I can only think what a beautiful province this is. In the afternoon under sunny skies we enter the caribou. The scenery changes to spring green rolling hills dotted with cattle.
As evening approaches we locate McLeese Lake Resort, we camp along the peaceful shores of Lake McLeese. Henry and I decide to head to the local Oasis Pub, famous for being the first licensed pub to open in British Columbia in 1974. We enjoy a home cooked dinner while watching the first two rounds of the Vancouver – San Jose hockey game. During the second intermission we head back to our campsite and sit around a campfire while listening to the hockey game on the radio.
